Will Sage Intacct projects convert to QuickBooks projects or classes?

Yes: Intacct projects can land as QuickBooks projects or as classes, and the choice is best made before the conversion starts.

Yes. Intacct projects can be brought across as QuickBooks projects, or they can be mapped to classes instead. Both routes are workable. The right one depends on the reports you need after the move, so treat it as a planning decision rather than a detail to settle later.

Projects or classes: which should you choose?

Pick projects when each job belongs to one customer and you want income, costs, and profitability gathered under it. QuickBooks Online has a Projects feature built for that, and Desktop editions handle the same tracking through customer jobs. The result is job-level reporting that will feel familiar to anyone who used Intacct’s project views.

Classes are the better fit when you need project results across the whole income statement. A class can sit on any transaction line, and QuickBooks can produce a profit and loss filtered by class. Classes are not tied to one customer, which suits a dimension you report on across accounts.

What happens to the tasks underneath a project?

Intacct projects often carry tasks beneath them, with costs tagged at the task level. QuickBooks represents that hierarchy differently depending on the edition, so the mapping has to be chosen deliberately. Tasks can be folded into the parent project’s name, kept as a nested level, or moved to a separate dimension. Which treatment fits is a file-by-file question, and it is one of the first things we assess in our Sage to QuickBooks conversion services.

How much project history comes across?

That varies by file. The depth of task-level history, the transaction volume, and the destination edition all play a part. Rather than guess, our engineers evaluate the data and describe what the converted ledger will hold before you commit to anything.

Are your classes already spoken for?

Intacct tracks its own dimensions besides projects, including departments, locations, and classes. If those are coming across too, the QuickBooks class field may already have an owner. Pushing projects into the same field mixes two dimensions into one, and every report built on it gets murkier. Settle this before conversion day, because re-tagging history afterwards is slow and error-prone.

A practical first step

List the reports you run today that mention projects, and note whether each needs job profitability or a sliced income statement. That list usually picks the target for you. Then send us the file for a free evaluation. Our engineers will review the project and task structure, recommend a mapping, and follow with a free quote before any work begins.
