Will Sage 50 time slips and unbilled expenses convert to QuickBooks?

In most cases both can carry over: time slips become QuickBooks time entries and unbilled costs stay billable, though the result depends on your file.

Usually, yes. Time slips and unbilled expenses are part of your Sage 50 data, and a full conversion can bring both across. The time entries land in QuickBooks time tracking, and open costs stay attached to the customer so they remain billable. The exact outcome depends on your file and on how much transaction detail the conversion includes.

Where do time slips land?

Sage 50 records work hours on time slips or time tickets, usually against a customer or job. On the QuickBooks side, the equivalent is a timesheet entry or a time activity. A conversion maps each slip to that structure and ties it to the employee and, where jobs were used, to the customer. That link is what keeps the hours available for job costing and for billing on an invoice. Because counts vary by file, our engineers verify them during the evaluation instead of assuming them.

What happens to unbilled expenses?

Unbilled expenses are costs you have paid or committed to but have not yet invoiced to the customer. QuickBooks handles these as billable expenses: a bill or a check flagged as reimbursable to a customer. When the conversion is scoped to include open transactions, these costs come across with the flag intact and wait on the customer record until you invoice them. If your Sage data recorded them another way, the mapping takes more care, and that is a file-by-file question.

What might need reentry?

The main gap shows up on light conversions, the kind that move only lists and opening balances. Open time slips and unbilled costs are transaction detail, so that lighter path leaves them behind, and they need manual reentry after cutover. A full conversion avoids most of that, but a few edges can still need attention.

A slip may be tied to a job with no matching customer:job in QuickBooks, or an entry may point at a record that failed to map cleanly. Old open items are worth a decision too: bring them across, or clear them in Sage first and convert a clean slate.

Our Sage to QuickBooks conversion services are scoped file by file for exactly this reason, and time entries and billable costs are part of that scoping.

The useful next step is a free evaluation of your file. We will count the time entries and open billable costs, tell you what will carry and what will not, and follow with a free quote. If some items are better reentered, you will know which ones and why before anything runs.
