Will my Sage 50 recurring transactions convert to QuickBooks?
In most cases, recurring and memorized transactions do not carry over automatically and will need to be re-created in QuickBooks after the conversion.
It depends on the file, but in most Sage 50 to QuickBooks conversions, recurring and memorized transactions do not carry over cleanly and will need to be re-created on the QuickBooks side.
What typically happens
Sage 50 stores recurring templates differently than QuickBooks stores its memorized transactions. The two systems use different data structures, different scheduling fields, and different logic for how a template generates a live transaction. When our engineers convert a Sage 50 company file – whether it is US Peachtree, Canadian Simply Accounting, or a current Sage 50 edition – the conversion targets historical transactions, customer and vendor lists, chart of accounts, and balances. Memorized and recurring templates are a separate category of data, and the built-in conversion pathways between the two products were never designed to map them directly.
Why re-creation is usually necessary
QuickBooks Desktop uses “Memorized Transactions” for anything you want to repeat on a schedule, and QuickBooks Online uses “Recurring Transactions.” Both are functional equivalents to what Sage 50 calls recurring transactions, but there is no reliable field-level mapping between the Sage template and the QuickBooks template during a standard conversion. Even if individual transactions that were already generated from a recurring template convert as normal historical entries, the underlying template that produced them typically does not.
What we recommend
After the conversion is complete, plan to rebuild your recurring templates directly in QuickBooks. This is usually straightforward because the vendor, customer, account, and item information those templates reference will already be in the converted file. You are re-creating the scheduling rule, not re-entering the underlying data. For most businesses, the number of active recurring templates is manageable – often a few dozen or less.
How we can help
When you send us your Sage 50 file for a free evaluation, our engineers will identify what is in the file – including how many recurring templates exist and whether any of them can be salvaged in the conversion. In some cases, depending on the Sage 50 version and the structure of the specific file, we may be able to carry over more than the standard conversion handles. But we will not guess at that without seeing the file first. The evaluation is free, and we will give you a clear picture of what converts, what does not, and what the work will involve before you commit to anything.
