Will my customers' saved credit card information convert from Sage 50 to QuickBooks?

No. Stored card numbers are not migrated for security reasons, so each payment method must be re-entered and verified in QuickBooks.

No. Saved credit card information does not convert from Sage 50 to QuickBooks. The card numbers, expiry dates, and payment tokens your customers have on file stay in Sage, and no proper conversion copies them across. You will need to re-enter and verify each payment method in QuickBooks before you can bill those customers by card again.

Why are stored cards left out of a conversion?

Card data sits in a special category. Payment industry rules treat stored card numbers and tokens as sensitive credentials, and those rules forbid copying raw card data from one system’s vault into another’s. Sage holds the details in its own secured payment storage, and QuickBooks Payments maintains a separate vault of its own. A conversion can move your accounting records, but the two vaults are walled off from each other. This protects your customers, though it does leave you with re-entry work.

Which customers are affected?

Anyone who pays you with a card you keep on file. Before you convert, export or print the list of customers set up for automatic or recurring card payments in Sage. That roster is your work plan. The stored details do not travel with the data, so capture the autopay list while you still have live access to Sage.

Getting cards working again in QuickBooks

For each affected customer you will need the card number, expiry date, and billing address, and every card must be entered and verified through QuickBooks Payments before a charge will succeed. Many businesses verify with a small test charge rather than discover a problem on a large recurring invoice. While you are at it, review any invoices set to bill automatically so nothing fires before its card is confirmed.

Where we fit in

When our engineers convert a Sage 50 company file, the card vault is the part that cannot make the trip, and we tell you that up front instead of letting it surface as a surprise mid-migration. Our Sage 50 to QuickBooks conversion service handles the accounting data, and we flag exactly which pieces, stored cards included, need re-entry on your side.

If a move is coming up, send us your Sage file for a free evaluation. We will confirm what converts, what stays behind, and what to schedule before your next billing run.
