Will my customers' ship-to addresses convert from Sage 50 to QuickBooks?

Most ship-to addresses carry over to QuickBooks Desktop; QuickBooks Online is more limited, so what survives depends on your file and setup.

Usually, yes. A Sage 50 customer can carry several ship-to addresses, and QuickBooks Desktop has a proper home for them, so they generally survive the move intact. QuickBooks Online is the weaker landing spot for this data, so there the answer depends on your file and on the choices made during conversion.

Where do ship-to addresses land in QuickBooks Desktop?

Desktop keeps a list of ship-to addresses on the customer record itself. One Sage customer becomes one QuickBooks customer, and the extra addresses attach to that same record rather than to new ones. Invoices that shipped to a branch or a warehouse can keep pointing at the correct destination instead of falling back to the head office.

A second approach exists: giving every address its own customer record or job. It works, but it multiplies your customer list and blurs sales reporting. Our engineers keep one customer per customer unless something in the file argues for splitting.

What about QuickBooks Online?

Online holds one shipping address per customer, with no list of alternates behind it. Depending on the file, extra addresses may end up in notes, in custom fields on sales forms, or on the transactions that used them. Which of those fits best depends on how many addresses a customer has and how often each one appears. If Online is your destination, pick the one address that matters most per customer before the move, and plan for the rest.

Checking your converted customer records

Print or export a list from Sage before the switch, showing the ship-to count per customer. After the move, use it to check four things:

Before you convert

Count first. Knowing which customers carry more than one address, and how many each has, gives you an acceptance test and gives us a target. You can contact E-Tech about your specific file and request a free evaluation at any point. We will tell you where each address will land in the edition you have chosen, and you can decide from there.
