Will customer payment terms convert from Sage 50 to QuickBooks?

Yes, normally: terms like Net 30 are list fields that usually map over, though uncommon terms and finance charge settings deserve a review afterward.

Yes, in almost every file we convert. Payment terms such as Net 30 are stored as list entries in Sage 50, and lists are the most reliable part of any conversion. Each customer keeps the term already assigned to it. The exceptions are uncommon or custom terms and the settings around finance charges, and those deserve a manual review afterward.

Terms are lists, and lists travel well

A terms entry is a small record: a name, the rule for when an invoice falls due, and sometimes an early payment discount. There is very little to translate. A term named Net 30 in Sage 50 becomes a term named Net 30 on the QuickBooks terms list. Customers point at their term by name, so matching names line up cleanly.

Our engineers map this list in every Sage 50 to QuickBooks conversion we run. Canadian files follow the same pattern; our Sage 50 Canada conversion service covers the Simply Accounting edition.

Which terms deserve a second look?

Standard due-day terms convert cleanly. Less common ones are worth comparing side by side. Terms with unusual structures can land differently. So can date-driven terms, where the due date depends on the invoice month rather than a flat day count, or wording that exists only in your file. The exact result depends on the file, so we check rather than assume. Where QuickBooks cannot express a term exactly, we flag it beforehand and propose the closest match.

Do finance charge settings carry over too?

Payment terms and finance charges are related but separate. Terms say when an invoice is due; finance charge settings say what happens when it goes unpaid. Those settings do not always move with the terms list, and the outcome depends on how your file is set up. After the conversion, open the finance charge preferences in QuickBooks and confirm the rate and grace period match what you expect. Reapply anything that did not carry.

A short review after the move

Spot check rather than assume. Open a handful of customers on your most common terms and confirm that recent invoices show the due dates you expect. Then walk the uncommon terms one at a time. A few minutes of review catches nearly every terms issue we see, well before month end.

If you want certainty before committing, send us your Sage 50 file for a free evaluation. We will tell you exactly which terms, finance charge settings, and lists will carry across, and flag anything that needs a decision on your side. You will have the answer for your file, not just the general rule.
