Do Sage 50 budgets and forecast data convert to QuickBooks?

It depends on your file, but annual budgets can often be mapped to QuickBooks budgeting while forecast data typically does not carry over directly.

Whether your Sage 50 budgets and forecasts survive a conversion to QuickBooks depends on what is in your file. In many cases, annual budget figures can be mapped across, but forecast and projection data does not have a direct equivalent in QuickBooks and generally does not transfer in a standard conversion.

What usually maps

QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online both support annual budgets organized by account and by month. If your Sage 50 file contains a straightforward annual budget broken down by general-ledger account and period, our engineers can usually map those figures into the QuickBooks budget workspace. The key question is structure: budgets that follow a clean account-based, monthly layout translate well. Budgets tied to Sage-specific job-costing layers or custom segmentation may need to be simplified or reorganized before they will fit QuickBooks’ budget model.

What typically does not carry over

Forecast data in Sage 50 – particularly multi-year projections, what-if scenarios, and cash-flow forecasts – has no direct counterpart in QuickBooks. QuickBooks handles a single annual budget per fiscal year and does not store the kind of forward-looking scenario modeling that Sage’s forecast tools provide. If your forecasts are critical to your workflow, plan to recreate them outside QuickBooks (in a spreadsheet, for example) or look at third-party reporting add-ons after the conversion is complete.

Why it depends on the file

Sage 50 US (Peachtree), Sage 50 Canada (Simply Accounting), and Sage BusinessWorks each store budget and forecast data somewhat differently. The edition of Sage you are on, how many years of budget history you have, and whether budgets are tied to departments or projects all affect what can be extracted and remapped. Rather than guess, we look at the actual file before committing to a specific outcome. You can get a free evaluation of your Sage 50 conversion so our engineers can tell you exactly which budget data will transfer and what will need to be rebuilt.

What to do next

Send us your Sage backup file and we will assess the budget and forecast data alongside everything else. You will get a clear breakdown of what converts, what does not, and what the project will involve – with no obligation to proceed until you approve.
