What happens to attachments and memos when converting from Sage 50?
Whether attachments and memos carry over depends on your specific file, so we review each conversion individually to determine what transfers.
Attachments and memos are not guaranteed to transfer in a standard Sage 50 to QuickBooks conversion. Whether they survive the move depends on the structure of your Sage file, the type of attachments involved, and which QuickBooks edition you are targeting.
The difference between memos and attachments
Memos and notes entered directly on transactions — the text fields inside a vendor bill, customer invoice, or journal entry — are generally more likely to come through than file attachments. Transaction-level memo fields are part of the accounting data itself, so conversion tools can often map them to the corresponding QuickBooks fields. File attachments, such as scanned receipts or PDF documents linked to a record, are stored separately from the core database and are handled differently by every conversion path.
Why attachments are less predictable
Attachments in Sage 50 can be stored in different ways depending on how they were added and which version of Sage was used. Some are embedded in the company data; others live in a separate folder on the server or workstation. QuickBooks also has its own attachment system, and the two do not map one-to-one. Because of this mismatch, we cannot guarantee that every linked document will arrive in the right place — or arrive at all — without examining the file first.
What we look for during a free evaluation
Our engineers inspect the Sage company file to see what types of attachments and notes are present, how they are stored, and whether a reliable mapping to QuickBooks exists. Some memo and note data transfers cleanly when the source file is healthy and the target QuickBooks edition supports the same fields. Other times, particularly with older Sage versions or heavily customized files, the data may be incomplete or stored in a format that does not convert cleanly. If you are working with a damaged or unusually structured file, our team can also assess whether file repair is needed before conversion begins.
What to do next
Send us a backup of your Sage 50 company file and we will review it at no cost. The evaluation tells you exactly what will carry over — attachments, memos, notes, and everything else — so there are no surprises after the conversion. Once we know what is in the file, we can give you a clear quote and timeline based on the actual work involved.
