What data carries over when converting Sage 50 to QuickBooks?
Most lists, account balances, and historical transactions transfer, but exact carry-over depends on your specific Sage file and target QuickBooks product.
In most Sage 50 to QuickBooks conversions, your core lists, account balances, and historical transactions carry over. Exactly what makes it through, however, depends on the condition of your Sage file and which QuickBooks product you are moving to.
Lists
The foundational records typically convert cleanly: the chart of accounts, customer and vendor lists, employee records, inventory items, and service items. These are the building blocks of your new QuickBooks file, and our engineers map each Sage list entry to its QuickBooks equivalent.
Balances
Account balances — including AR and AP aging, bank and credit card balances, and retained earnings — generally transfer so that your books stay in balance. We typically tie balances to a conversion cut-off date so that the QuickBooks file opens with correct beginning figures.
Historical transactions
Open transactions such as unpaid invoices, unpaid bills, and credits usually carry over so you can continue collecting and paying. Full transaction history — closed invoices, payments, journal entries, deposits — can often be converted as well, though the depth and cleanliness of that history varies from file to file.
What depends on your file
The exact carry-over is not something we can guarantee in the abstract. Factors that affect the outcome include the age and health of your Sage data file, the specific Sage 50 edition and year you are leaving, whether the file has any damage or corruption, and whether you are targeting QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks Online. Some fields and record types map directly; others require manual re-creation or have no direct equivalent in QuickBooks. Rather than guess at what those are, we prefer to look at your actual file.
