What data can I move from Sage BusinessWorks to QuickBooks?
You can typically move your chart of accounts, customer and vendor lists, employees, beginning balances, and transaction history from BusinessWorks into QuickBooks.
In most cases, the core financial data from Sage BusinessWorks – your chart of accounts, customer and vendor records, item lists, open balances, and historical transactions – can be converted into a QuickBooks company file. Exactly how much comes across cleanly depends on the structure of your specific BusinessWorks file, so we always begin with a free evaluation rather than assuming a fixed set of data points.
Lists and master records
The foundational lists generally convert well. This includes your chart of accounts, customer and vendor contacts, inventory and service items, and employee records. We map each BusinessWorks list element to its QuickBooks equivalent so that names, addresses, terms, and account associations carry over in a way that is usable on day one.
Balances
Open balances are a major part of any BusinessWorks conversion. We look at accounts receivable and accounts payable open items, inventory quantities and valuation, and general ledger beginning balances. The goal is to bring your QuickBooks file to a point where it reflects the same financial position as BusinessWorks at the cutoff date, whether that means full history or a clean starting balance.
Transaction history
Historical transactions – invoices, bills, payments, journal entries, payroll records, and purchase orders – can often be moved, but the depth and cleanliness of that history varies from file to file. BusinessWorks stores data in its own structure, and some transaction types or custom fields may not have a direct QuickBooks counterpart. Where a field does not map natively, we find the closest equivalent or note it in the evaluation so there are no surprises.
BusinessWorks specifics
BusinessWorks has modules and features that differ from QuickBooks in how they handle things like serialized inventory, multi-warehouse stock, custom reporting fields, and certain payroll data. Whether those specifics carry over, and how, is something our engineers confirm against your actual file. We do not guess at compatibility; we inspect the data and tell you up front what will convert and what may need manual entry or an alternative approach.
