This company cannot be converted because the version of Quickbooks it uses is too old
The Sage 50 conversion tool cannot write to your QuickBooks file because the QuickBooks version is below the minimum the tool supports.
“This company cannot be converted because the version of Quickbooks it uses is too old.”
Despite the wording, this message is rarely about your Sage 50 file at all. It means the conversion tool that moves data from Sage 50 into QuickBooks has looked at the QuickBooks installation or company file you pointed it at and decided that version is below the floor it was built to write to. The Sage data is fine; the QuickBooks side is the problem.
Update QuickBooks to a supported version
The most straightforward fix is to install or upgrade to a newer release of QuickBooks Desktop – one that the Sage conversion tool recognises as current enough to accept imported data. Once QuickBooks is updated, re-run the conversion. If you are unsure which version is new enough, we can look at your Sage file and tell you what we recommend.
Check that the conversion tool is pointing at the right QuickBooks
If you have more than one version of QuickBooks on the machine – an old install alongside a newer one – the conversion utility may be detecting the older copy. Uninstalling the old version, or repairing the QuickBooks installation so the conversion tool binds to the correct edition, can clear the message without needing to buy anything.
Let us handle the conversion
When upgrading QuickBooks is not practical – because you are on a locked-down machine, or you need to land on a specific older edition – our engineers can perform the Sage 50 to QuickBooks conversion directly. We work from your Sage 50 company file and deliver a QuickBooks company file ready to open, bypassing the version check that triggered this message. If your data is from the Canadian edition, we also handle Simply Accounting to QuickBooks conversions.
The cost and turnaround depend on the size and complexity of your file, so we offer a free evaluation and quote – send us your Sage 50 backup and we will tell you exactly what is involved before you commit to anything.
