Do Sage 50 payment terms and customer credit limits convert to QuickBooks?
Yes, both usually carry over, since QuickBooks has matching fields for terms and credit limits on each customer and vendor record.
Payment terms and customer credit limits are among the fields that usually convert cleanly, because QuickBooks has a direct place to put them. Each customer and vendor record in QuickBooks has a Terms field and, for customers, a Credit Limit field. When your Sage 50 data is mapped across, those values land in the matching spots. The exact result depends on your file, so we verify it during the conversion rather than assume it.
Which fields map directly?
The core customer and vendor details map well. Names, addresses, phone numbers, email contacts, and account numbers generally carry over. Payment terms are part of this group: if a customer is set to Net 30 in Sage 50, the same named term is created in QuickBooks and assigned to that customer. Credit limits sit on the customer record and map to the QuickBooks credit limit field.
One thing to know about terms: QuickBooks stores them as a list. If Sage 50 has several slightly different term descriptions, they may arrive as separate entries in that list. That is cosmetic and easy to tidy up after the conversion.
What may need re-entry?
Some Sage 50 settings have no true equivalent in QuickBooks, or behave differently there. Customer notes, custom fields, and certain finance-charge settings may not land where you expect, or may not carry at all. Vendor credit limits are another common gap: QuickBooks does not enforce a credit limit on vendors the way Sage 50 can, so that value may have nowhere useful to go.
Open sales orders and quotes are a separate question from terms and limits. Whether they convert depends on the QuickBooks edition you are moving to, and on the file itself. We check this as part of the evaluation.
What should you check after the conversion?
Spot-check a handful of customer records once the data is in QuickBooks. Confirm the terms and credit limits on your largest accounts match what Sage 50 showed. Review the terms list itself and merge any duplicates. If anything is missing, it is far easier to fix a few records than to discover the gap at month-end.
Where to get help with the conversion
Our engineers handle these conversions regularly, including the details that automated tools tend to skip. See our Sage 50 to QuickBooks conversion service for what is involved, or our Sage 50 Canada conversion page if your file is the Canadian edition. We can evaluate your file at no cost and tell you exactly which fields will carry and which will need re-entry.
