Can I convert Sage 50 to QuickBooks if my Sage subscription has expired?
Yes. An expired Sage plan stops the software, not the data, and we can usually convert straight from the backup on your computer.
Yes, in almost every case we see. An expired subscription restricts the Sage program, not your company data. We convert from the data itself, so a live Sage plan is not something we need on our side.
Does an expired plan lock your data?
Not in the way that matters. The subscription gates the software: updates, support, and certain features stop when the plan lapses. Depending on the release, the program may open your company read-only, or it may refuse to open at all. Behavior varies by version and region, so we will not guess which applies to you. The data itself does not vanish. It stays in the folder where Sage saved it.
Which files can we work from?
Two sources cover almost every expired-plan case. The first is a backup file created in Sage before the plan lapsed. The second is the working data folder itself, copied from the machine where Sage last ran. If the program still opens, even read-only, make a fresh backup first; that captures your newest transactions. If it will not open, the most recent backup you have is usually enough. Which source suits your file is what our evaluation determines.
What should you gather before starting?
- A backup file, or a copy of the full company data folder.
- The Sage edition and release year you last ran, if you know them.
- The administrator user name and password, if the file is protected.
- A short note on what matters most to you: years of history, key lists, open balances.
The last item does not need to be perfect. A free evaluation reads the file and reports what it actually holds, then tells you what a conversion would deliver. Lost passwords are usually recoverable too; it is better to say so up front than to guess.
US and Canadian editions follow the same overall approach, with details that differ by file. Our Sage 50 to QuickBooks conversion service covers the US edition, and Canadian files go through our Simply Accounting conversion service. The next step is small: find the backup, note the version, and request a free evaluation. We confirm what the file contains and quote the work before anything begins.
