Can I convert Sage 50 data to QuickBooks from a backup file?
Yes, you can convert from a Sage 50 backup, but we normally restore it to a working company file first and then convert a copy.
Yes. A Sage 50 backup can be used for a QuickBooks conversion, but our engineers normally start by restoring the backup to a working company file. They do the conversion on a copy, so your live company data is never touched.
Does the backup need to be restored first?
Usually, yes. A backup file is a packaged copy of your company data, not an open database. To read the data accurately, we need Sage 50 to open the restored company file. That also lets us confirm the file is intact and complete before the conversion starts.
In some cases we can work from the backup without restoring it first. It depends on how the backup was created, whether it is complete, and which Sage 50 version made it. We do not guess on that. We ask for a copy of the backup or company file, examine it, and then tell you what the conversion will require.
Working from a copy
We never convert your only working company file. A conversion reads and transforms data, and an interruption could leave the source file in an uncertain state. So we copy the data first and convert the copy. Your original stays in place, and you can keep working in Sage 50 while we check the data. We compare what we bring over against that original file so nothing gets lost in translation.
Sending us your file
Send us a copy of your Sage 50 backup, or the company file if it is local. We inspect it, tell you what we can convert, and give you a fixed quote. There is no standard price or time frame, because every Sage 50 file is different in size, history, and health.
If the backup will not restore, that is not the end of the road. Our engineers repair damaged Sage and Simply Accounting databases before conversion. But we only know whether that is needed after we see the file. You can send it through our Sage 50 to QuickBooks conversion page.
Your next step
Start by sending us a copy of the backup. We will give you a free evaluation and tell you exactly what is possible before any work begins. You keep the original; all our checking happens on a copy.
