Can a Sage 50 company file stored on Sage Drive be converted to QuickBooks?

Yes. A conversion runs on a local copy of the company file, so you download the file from Sage Drive first, then convert that copy to QuickBooks.

Yes. A Sage 50 company that lives on Sage Drive can be converted to QuickBooks. The conversion does not read the cloud copy directly. It runs against a local copy of the company file, so the first step is pulling one down.

What actually gets converted?

Sage Drive keeps a copy of your company in the cloud and syncs it with the computers that open it. When you or a colleague opens the company through Sage Drive, Sage 50 works on a local copy cached on that machine. A conversion needs that kind of on-disk copy. The cloud copy by itself is a sync target, not a file a converter can open in place.

The practical effect is simple: bring the company down to one computer, confirm the copy is complete and current, and convert that. Nothing about Sage Drive blocks the move. It just adds one step.

How do you pull a local copy down?

Sign in on the machine where you use Sage 50 and open the company the way you normally do, through Sage Drive. That places a working copy on the computer. For a standalone copy, use the download option in Sage Drive and note where the file lands.

Two checks are worth the minute they take. First, make sure everyone’s recent work has synced up, so the copy you take reflects the true books. Pause other users’ editing while you take it. Second, run Sage 50’s data integrity check on the local copy before it goes anywhere. A conversion can only be as clean as the file it starts from.

Does converting touch the original?

No. The Sage Drive copy and the local original stay exactly as they are. Our conversion works on the copy you send. You keep the untouched Sage 50 data as a fallback until you are satisfied with the result in QuickBooks. The safe order is: convert the copy, review the outcome, then decide what happens on the Sage side.

What carries over?

That depends on the file. What moves across, and how cleanly, varies with the contents of your company and with the QuickBooks edition you are heading to, Desktop or Online. We do not guess at that. Our engineers review the file and tell you before any work starts. The review is free, and so is the quote.

Next step

Once you have the local copy, send it for a free evaluation through our Sage 50 US to QuickBooks conversion service or, if your file is the Canadian edition, our Simply Accounting to QuickBooks conversion service. We will confirm what the file holds, flag anything that needs a decision, and quote the work with no obligation. Keep the Sage Drive copy as it is in the meantime.
